Reading the runes

Soothsayers are on tour at the moment, ahead of a keenly anticipated new album expected later in the year.
Led by the duo of trumpeter Robin Hopcraft and saxophonist Idris Rahman the Afrobeat-inspired group also includes percussionist and singer Adesose Wallace, guitarists Phil Dawson and Jonny Phillips, bassist Eustace Williams and drummer Patrick Illingworth. Known mainly for its debut CD Lost City released three years ago, the group has had a quiet profile more recently although plans for a new album, with guests such as Keziah Jones, Rikki Rankin and Netsayi Chigwendere are advancing. Idris Rahman says: 'We have finished recording the tracks for the next album and are presently mixing in London and Paris with sound genius/engineer Timour Cardenas.'
The group appears on 27 February at Cargo, London EC2 and on 11 March at Queen's Hall, Narberth in Wales followed by the Toucan Club, Cardiff on 12 March. Further dates are Newquay Waves Club, Cornwall, 19 March; Moles Club, Bath, 20 March; Bridport Arts Centre, Dorset, 2 April and Darbuka, London EC1 on 14 April.
