New beginning for Smalls

Welcome news for New York jazz fans with the announcement that much missed jazz club Smalls is to reopen on 2 March at its original location of 183 W10th Street in Greenwich Village.
The club closed its doors after a sharp rent increase in 2003 and the jamming scene there shifted to the Fat Cat on nearby Christopher St. Spokesman for Smalls Luke Kaven says: 'For a year and a half, people kept coming to the door at 183 W10th, asking where Smalls was. The new tenant finally decided that it was in his best interest to invite Smalls back in.' In the late 90s the club became a haven for bohemian jazz musicians and fans attracted by its eccentric and engaging non corporate jazz club ethos. The spirit of the club could be about to be revived if the move is a successful one. For more info go to www.smallsrecords.com
