Troyka and Brass Mask burn up Match&Fuse

A white hot trio of bands are set for a series of unique collaborative double-bills as the scorching Match&Fuse tour/exchange project rolls on tonight and across the weekend.

These feature irreverent Toulouse-based band Pulcinella, who whip up a combustible blend of Balkan jazz, trippy tangos and rock at dangerous energy levels, who will be sharing a bill with the artfully grungy jazz-prog of Troyka on three regional dates, while the tour will conclude in London with a sizable face-off between Pulcinella and saxophonist Tom Challenger’s skanking New Orleans-style brass ensemble, Brass Mask.

As ever the M&F modus operandi is two individual sets followed by a collaborative closing one, which should be prove particularly riotous here. The gigs kicked off last night at Jazz Café, Newcastle and continue tonight at Dempseys, Cardiff (16 July); Coal Vaults, Canal Basin, Coventry (17 July) and Rich Mix, London E1 (18 July).
