Guitarist Rob Luft wins Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize

Emerging jazz guitar talent Rob Luft has been awarded this year’s Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize, the winner of which is selected from graduating musicians from the Royal Academy of Music. The prize includes releasing an album on leading UK jazz label Edition Records. Twenty two-year old Luft is already busy on the London jazz scene, having joined NYJO when he was 15 and leading his own bands since, he’s also played with the likes of Django Bates, Stan Sulzmann, Liane Carroll and Gregory Porter.

The sixth recipient of the award Luft follows in the footsteps other rising star musicians Josh Arcoleo, Reuben Fowler, Lauren Kinsella, Misha Mullov-Abbado and Ralph Wyld, with the latter vibes player set to release his debut album on Edtion later this year. The prize is judged by a panel consisting of Edition Records’ boss Dave Stapleton, RAM head of jazz and trumpeter Nick Smart and highly respected saxophonist Evan Parker.
