The irrepressible Lea DeLaria – who describes herself as “a chick singer with balls” – hits the road in some style next month in support of her New York-recorded album Live Smoke Sessions. The hard swinging wisecracking singer who has become well-known to British jazz audiences in recent years reprises material from the well-received album which was recorded at Manhattan’s Smoke club and which featured a guest appearance by Ian Shaw. Lea tours with pianist Janette Mason, bassist Simon Little and drummer Mark Fletcher for the tour. Dates are: Pizza Express Jazz Club, London (18-19 March), Pizza Express, Maidstone (28 March), the Brunswick, Hove (29 March), Dean Clough Halifax (3 April), Fleece, Kersey (17 April), the Hawth, Crawley (24 April), Daffodil, Cheltenham Jazz Festival (1 May), Market Arts Centre, Hove (7 May), Queer Up North, Manchester (23 May), the Met, Bury (28 May), Hull Truck Theatre, Hull (29 May) and Southport Melodic Jazz Club, Southport (31 May).
