TrioVD Storm The Vortex

Shocked and awed, the audience at London’s Vortex Jazz Club were thrilled by a blitzkrieg of expression from the LIMA Collective’s trioVD as they played their first headline London gig last night.

Drummer, Chris Bussey’s frenetic waves of rhythmic energy furiously pulsated through the sonic landscape, blanketing all sensory perception. Protruding through this musical fabric, guitarist, Chris Sharkey’s angular chordal shards of sound imbued Christophe de Bezenac’s muscular melodic expansions on alto saxophone with a stinging harmonic intensity.

Passages of free-form avant-rock, in which acute cymbal effects pierced subdued layers of electronic sound swarms, were brutally but seamlessly contradistinguished by tight be-bop/rock melodic themes propelled by commanding power-anthem rock grooves. The encore, built around an exultant theme glistening with pride, passion and a mercurial sensibility, served to reinforce what was already manifestly apparent: that this band has achieved a degree of cohesion, synergy, and abandon that few could emulate.

Watch this space for details of their debut album set for release later in the year - or visit their website for a taster here .
