The boundary-busting music festival Fertilizer is now underway with a series of gigs stretching to next Monday in London and on tour to six cities featuring cutting edge bands from Warsaw, Gdansk, Bydgoszcz and Wroclaw. Previous Fertilizer themes have focused on the festival's own cheeky moniker “good shit” from Norway, Britain, Germany and France in previous years but this year looks instead at the deep creativity at work on Poland’s burgeoning creative music scene. The explosive and experimental cocktail of music kicks off with a sure-to-be lively collaboration between Acoustic Ladyland driving force saxman Pete Wareham and up-for it Polish experimentalists Pink Freud who deftly combine punk energy and free improv. They play London venue Cargo tonight, with underground group Baaba in support. Electronica outfit Jacaszek, post-rock alt-jazzers Sing Sing Penelope and modern jazz ensemble Contemporary Noise Sextet also play Cargo tomorrow (14 May). East London arts venue Rich Mix hosts a series of Polish films and the Sound Postcards exhibition and at Hoxton Hall in Shoreditch experimental music group Małe Instrumenty, who create quirky improvised music from children’s toys and samples, are set to perform on Sunday.
