The full line-up for next month’s Brecon Jazz Festival is now confirmed. The festival, running from 7-9 August, features some of the leading names on the scene. Big names performing this year and already announced include Courtney Pine, Empirical and Abdullah Ibrahim. Highlights for the Friday 7 August programme include Art Themen, Julian Marc Stringle and Bruce Adams Sextet (6.30pm, Theatr Brycheiniog), the Stan Tracey Octet (7.30pm, Captain’s Walk), John Etheridge’s Sweet Chorus (7.30pm, Brecon cathedral), and later in the evening Empirical will perform (8:30pm, Theatr Brycheiniog). Saturday 8 August sees piano legend Abdullah Ibrahim take to the stage of the Market Hall (5pm), Clark Tracey Sextet (5pm, Captain’s Walk), leading UK saxophonist Courtney Pine (7.30pm, Market Hall), Gareth Williams Power Trio (12 noon, Market Hall) and Anouar Brahem Trio (11pm, Brecon cathedral). The final day of the festival is to include the Don Weller Quartet (2:30pm, Theatr Brycheiniog), Vic Ash and the Simon Spillett Quintet, (5pm, Brecon cathedral), Peter King Quartet (5pm, Theatr Brycheiniog) and closing this year’s programme will be trombonist Dennis Rollins with his group Badbone & Co (7:30pm, Captain’s Walk). – Warren Timmis For more go to www.breconjazz.org
