The Supersonic Festival at Birmingham venue the Custard Factory is set to host Bobby Previte’s Dialed In on Saturday 25 July. The alternative and electronic music festival takes place over the weekend of 24-26 July in Digbeth. Previte was last in the UK in 2008 for a concert in the Pillar Room held during the Cheltenham Jazz Festival with his band The New Bump. He is in Birmingham to work with VJ artist Benton C-Bainbridge in a live audiovisual performance involving Previte triggering sounds live – there are no loops, laptops, or overdubbing. VJ Benton-C “paints with light”, with images bleeding off the screen and on to the performers and the pair each use obsolete and forgotten technology, with Benton-C shape shifting video. Previte is best known for his New York Downtown 1980s Gramavision period and his bands Empty Suits, Latin for Travelers, and the Voodoo Orchestra, playing the music of Bitches Brew. A regular visitor to the UK, Previte has played music from the Miles Davis album with Birmingham students in the past featuring the drummer taking the lead with the concept of the music scored without a trumpet part.
