Singer Liane Carroll heads to the Scarborough Jazz Festival, held at the Spa in the Yorkshire seaside town between 18 and 20 September. The award winning singer and pianist appears with her trio of Roger Carey on electric bass and Mark Fletcher, drums. Also on the bill for this year’s festival is US player Michael Janisch. The bassist, who has collaborated with some of the UK’s leading young jazz artists, such as Gwilym Simcock, Jim Hart and Soweto Kinch, will be performing with his quartet, which includes Grammy award winning drummer Jonathan Blake. Also for Scarborough is guitarist John Etheridge who will be appearing with violinist Christian Garrrick. Etheridge has performed with legendary violinist Stéphane Grappelli, John Williams, Andy Summers and violinist Nigel Kennedy over the course of his long career. The Scarborough line-up this year also includes the Steve Grossman/ Damon Brown Quintet, Killer Shrimp, Ken Peplowski and Alan Barnes with the Dave Newton Trio, guitarist Nicolas Meier and his group featuring Israeli saxophonist Gilad Atzmon and Andy Panayi’s star studded band project, Greek Gods Suite. – Warren Timmis For more go to www.scarboroughjazzfestival.co.uk
