After a snow delayed start last week which led to the cancelling of the first gig in the series, St George’s in Bristol kicks off its Jazz (Not Jazz) series tonight with an intriguing triple bill featuring some of the more talked about new bands on the UK and international scene. Nostalgia 77, with Twelves Trio and the country-jazz-soul of singer-songwriter Jeb Loy Nichols begin the series which has been curated by Independent jazz critic Phil Johnson. Norwegian trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer follows on 18 February and then on 11 March it’s the turn of the highly rated Swiss minimalists Nik Bärtsch & Ronin while former EST bassist Dan Berglund’s new band Tonbruket visit on 1 April. The series comes to a conclusion with John Law’s Art of Sound on 22 April and Portico Quartet on 27 May. For more go to www.stgeorgesbristol.co.uk
