The stunning Turner Sims Hall in Southampton will play host to an impressive array of UK and European jazz stars this spring. Among the highlights saxophonist Andy Sheppard reprises his Anglo-Nordic quintet with guitarist John Parricelli and tabla master Kuljit Bhamra alongside Norwegians Eivind Aaset on guitar and the wonderful Arild Anderson on bass. Fellow Scandi-jazz star Nils Petter Molvaer brings his artfully bombastic new show to town with a trio also featuring Aarset on guitar and drummer Audun Kleive. Later in April the Neil Cowley Trio return with material from their new album and in May acclaimed pianist Gwilym Simcock leads a band featuring US bass icon Steve Swallow and guitarist Mike Walker. The dates include Andy Sheppard’s Movements In Colour (6 Feb), Nils Petter Molvaer (27 Feb), Denys Baptiste with the Southampton Youth Jazz Orchestra (7 Mar), Portico Quartet plus Sweet Billy Pilgrim (18 Mar), Dan Berglund’s Tonbruket (28 Mar), Ian Shaw and Liane Carroll (18 Apr), Stefano Bollani Trio (22 Apr), Neil Cowley Trio (8 May), Gwilym Simcock Quartet (21 May).
