Leading US pianist Brad Mehldau is back with a brand new album to be released by his label Nonesuch on 16 March.
Titled Highway Rider the double album is the second collaboration with producer Jon Brion and features Mehldau’s trio as well as drummer Matt Chamberlain, saxophonist Joshua Redman and a chamber orchestra. Brion and Mehldau worked together on Mehldau’s 2002 album Largo with the new project building on their work together. At the time Largo was a new step for Mehldau which saw the pianist move more into electronica territory incorporating horns and strings instead of working with his more usual trio. Mehldau returns to the UK in June for two more Wigmore Hall concerts plus a date at the Howard Assembly Room in Leeds.
