It’s hard to keep up with Gwilym Simcock. One moment he’s touring with his trio, or writing music for a large choir or appearing at the Proms, the next he’s taking his place in a new international band touring here for the first time. The young pianist teams up with bass heavyweight Steve Swallow, highly rated US drummer Adam Nussbaum and Manchester powerhouse guitarist Mike Walker. Simcock arranged Steve Swallow’s music for Norma Winstone a few years back and Swallow liked what he heard while Mike Walker wrote his project ‘Ropes’ with Adam Nussbaum in mind, so the band knits together well from both perspectives. Both Simcock and Walker have written new music for the band and as well as touring here the band will also tour in continental Europe. UK dates include Turner Sims, Southampton (21 May); CBSO Centre, Birmingham (22 May); Embrace Arts, Leicester (23 May) and Ronnie Scott's, London (24 May) with more dates in Dorking, Swansea, Ambleside and Manchester in July.
