The Cork Jazz Festival – Ireland’s leading jazz festival since 1978 – has announced its line-up. Sponsored by Guinness the festival takes place over the long Irish bank holiday weekend of 22-25 October in Cork city. This year the line-up sees Charlie Haden’s Quartet West, Charles McPherson, Vijay Iyer Trio, Tord Gustavsen Ensemble, Omar Sosa, the Neil Cowley Trio, Robert Glasper, Maceo Parker, Yuri Honing, Christine Tobin, Steve Winwood, Jason Moran and the Bandwagon, Mary Halvorson, Norma Winstone and more to be confirmed plus workshops and masterclasses. One of the more unusual highlights also includes the resurgent Sun Ra Arkestra – who have been winning a new army of fans under the direction of long serving saxophonist Marshall Allen – appearing on two double bills with arch post-jazz trio The Bad Plus.
