The doors are opening to the Bath Jazz 'n' Blues Festival, which gets underway on Sunday 18 July for one day only, beginning at noon and ending at 10pm with interesting acts on the two stages at the Green Park Station in Bath. The biggest name scheduled to play at the festival is legendary saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis. Now living just down the road in Frome, Somerset, the James Brown and Van Morrison alumnus will guest with British trumpeter Byron Wallen – who just a month ago was on TV playing a vuvuzela on BBC2’s Newsnight programme – as well as a first class backing of Swedish pianist Anders Olinder and drummer Andy Tween. The exciting jazz funk of altoist James Morton’s band Porkchop is also one to watch, Morton having showcased his considerable talents at the Brit awards earlier this year as part of Kasabian’s horn section. Acclaimed US session guitarist Gregg Wright is the big blues name in the line-up, whose high profile work includes having played alongside the likes of Michael Jackson and Spencer Davis. - James Bourne For more go to www.coolerfestivals.co.uk
