Finnish saxophonist Timo Lassy, who has been stirring up the jazz scene across Europe having been hailed as a “rising star” in Downbeat magazine, makes his London debut at the Pheasantry in Chelsea, on 10 August at 8.30pm.  Lassy will perform material from his fifth album Love Bullet, released this year, which showcases a contemporary take on his band’s key influences: soul jazz and hard bop groups from the 1950s and 60s and latin jazz.

The album features his regular quintet, a pan-European/African line-up who have performed extensively together and have been tipped as “one of Europe’s sharpest bands” by The Sunday Times. They include comprising Greek Keyboardist Georgios Kontrafouris, Ethiopian-born percussionist Abdissa “Mamba” Assefa, along with fellow players on the Finnish scene Antti Lötjönen on bass and Teppo “Teddy Rok” Mäkynen on drums. The band is also performing at this year’s Brecon Jazz Festival, on 8 August.
