Jazzwise Gig GuideEvent
Description
There probably isn’t a group like Orquestra Piazza Vittorio anywhere else in the world – 16 musicians, each one unique in origin, instrument, and musical experience. From Tunisia, Brazil, Cuba, Hungary, the United States and elsewhere, they were brought together by Italian musical director and keyboardist Mario Tronco.
Their story began in Piazza Vittorio in the Esquilino neighborhood in Rome, a thoroughfare and hub for various cultures. With the help of Agostino Ferrente, Tronco formed an orchestra that plays and reinvents music from all over the world - with a freshness and visceral energy that audiences take away with them after each concert. Now well-known in Italy and abroad, the Orquestra’s unique blend of strings, horns, flutes, all kinds of stringed instruments and African percussion is a joyful sound that testifies to Rome’s renewed status as one of the world’s cultural and musical crossroads. This concert is the Orquestra’s UK debut. Venue
