Charismatic and dramatic, Marisa Monte is without question one of Brazil's greatest singers, and returns to London for her first performance in some years. A stunningly talented and compelling live performer, a sense of theatre and occasion is always present rduring her live appearances. Releasing two beautiful but contrasting records that she will be featuring tonight. The first Universo Ao Meu Redor, explores and re-visits the heritage, origins and atmosphere of samba, reworking and rejuvenating music that is sometimes fifty years old; the second Infinito Particular (EMI) looks into some 15 years of Marisa's own, many unreleased compositions with a host of collaborators, from old friends such as Carlinhos Brown to the new generation, such as Seu Jorge.
