Description
Now home to many of the Loop Collective's numerous affiliated groups The Oxford tonight hosts a set from new band [iks] that features bassist Pierre Alexandre Tremblay, drummer Stefan Schneider, guitarist Sylvain Pohu, pianist Nicolas Boucher, saxophonist SÌÄå©bastien Arcand-Tourigny in a contemporary jazz ensemble [iks] founded in July 1996. The musicians' common desire to experiment with their different approaches to improvised music and create a new and unique language was at the base of this association. Subtle at times, precise at others, the opposed yet complementary colours of this new language are confronted in [iks]'s original compositions where free-jazz and electronica collide to create sounds that range from the abstract to the confrontational.
