With pianist Alcyona Mick causing a stir with her now long-recorded but highly praised debut Around the Sun, loaded with the kind of unhinged virtuosity that makes all of the Loop Collective's prodigious young players so intriguing, tonight will be an opportunity to hear her in a different setting. Emerging out of a collaboration between pianist Mick and French saxophonist Robin Fincker in 2004, with Paul Clarvis on drums, Blink are aptly named as they swiftly dice between 20th century classical music, folkloric world sounds and most of jazz's distinct eras. As ever the high-minded intentions give way to passionate playing that despite its intellectual properties, hits home with a pure intensity of its own.
