The Brighton Jazz Club moves venue tonight for the first of a new season of quality Friday night jazz gigs. Putting away the funny wigs, glasses and the kosher humour of his slightly dubious Artie Fishel persona to reform his cracking Orient House ensemble fans of Atzmon's killer playing but less on his invective can breath easy now. Once more joined by the fearsome Asaf Sirkis on drums, incredible Yaron Stavi on bass and the compelling Frank Harrison on keys, Atzmon's ever incisive and restlessly creative playing is sounding fierier than ever. Playing several dates this month in support of his new album Refuge, he continues to explore his molten fusing of Arabic harmonies and jazz improv, with a 21st century twist of heavy metal bebop watch out.
