See the London Jazz Festival out in style today as the blue skies continue, and we move into the cool of the night. If you haven’t been to much so far now’s a great chance, and there’s still plenty on offer around and about. Jacqui Dankworth and Charlie Wood are right now about to go on stage at the Barbican as part of the Big Sing beginning at two, so best get your skates on if you’re in the foyer, and Stu Brown’s Twisted Toons fetch up more than a smile or two away in the Purcell Room over on the South Bank. The F-IRE Collective take over the Clore Ballroom later in the afternoon with a number of bands and a special appearance by the F-IRE Large Ensemble remembering the late Richard Turner who died in August. The trumpeter’s Friendly Fires horn section colleagues Barak Schmool and Pete Horsfall appear within the band alongside a stellar aggregation of top UK jazz talent. Phronesis play the Front Room at six, and at Ronnie Scott’s it’s the long running lively Blues Explosion night, and meantime Bill Frisell plays the QEH, with Ornette Coleman at the nearby Royal Festival Hall. Ian Shaw and Sarah-Jane Morris are at Hideaway in Streatham, and Tia Fuller plays the Pizza Express Jazz Club. Until next year’s LJF starting on Friday 9 November 2012 – it’s bye for now. – Stephen Graham
