An astonishing new supergroup, the Five Peace Band, featuring Chick Corea on keyboards, guitarist John McLaughlin, saxophonist Kenny Garrett, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, has just been announced for the closing night of this year’s London Jazz Festival at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday 23 November. This is the first time Corea and McLaughlin have worked on a joint project since the Miles Davis Bitches Brew sessions over 40 years ago and repertoire will be drawn from that period as well as more recently composed work. The festival, now in its sixteenth year and held in association with BBC Radio 3 and sponsored by Jazzwise, takes place from 14-23 November at most of the major concert venues and jazz clubs across London.
Last month Herbie Hancock was exclusively revealed in Jazzwise as a festival headliner playing two different shows at the Royal Festival Hall and the Barbican and with other big names announced below the festival is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and eagerly anticipated in years.
