Fast becoming a major fixture on the UK jazz festival circuit, the Gateshead International jazz Festival returns for its third year on 16-18 March. As with previous years the event features some of the cream of the UK and international scene. Base at the prestigious Sage venue on the banks of the Tyne near the new Baltic art gallery, this year’s event begins with the BBC Big Band plus Monty Alexander and Lea DeLaria on 16 March in Hall One of the Sage.
The remainder of the line-up includes: Byron Wallen’s Meeting Ground, Bill Bruford and Michiel Borstlap, Kidsamonium with Tom Bancroft and Friends, Drum Masterclass With Bill Bruford, Ian Carr Tribute event, Chris Bowden Trio, EST, Jack DeJohnette Masterclass and Concert, Andy Sheppard, John Parricelli and Kuljit Bhamra, Voice of the North With Bob Mintzer, Campbell Burnap and Branford Marsalis. There will also be pre-concert talks with Jazzwise writer Alyn Shipton interviewing Byron Wallen, Jack DeJohnette and Esbjörn Svensson.
