Ronnie Scott’s, gearing up for its 50th anniversary celebrations in the autumn, is already booking some high powered artists in the coming month and May is already shaping up to be one of the most illustrious in some time. US clarinettist Don Byron hits Frith Street on 4 May for a rare visit, while Jack DeJohnette and John Surman are also now confirmed to appear on 5 and 6 May. The following week it’s the turn of New Orleans trumpeter Terence Blanchard from 11-13 May while the Dizzy Gillespie All Stars Featuring James Moody will be appearing from 18-20 May. Brazilian singer Tania Maria makes a return to the club on 21 and 22 May followed by leading US saxophonist Joe Lovano coming in for the 23rd and 24th with his quintet. UK favourite Andy Sheppard is in for the 25th and 26th while the month’s stellar bookings are rounded off for night only on the 28th by the Branford Marsalis Quartet.
