Pizza Express Jazz Club in London’s Soho celebrates the arrival of a new Steinway piano at the club this weekend with a special piano-themed festival. The club, on Dean Street in the heart of Soho, is, along with Ronnie Scott’s and the Vortex, at the heart of the London and UK jazz club scene with a constant stream of new and established international artists performing in its intimate surroundings. The festival comes at a time when the Pizza Express chain is rolling out more jazz in its restaurants up and down the country, building on its long standing association with the music dating back to the 1960s. The full programme for the festival is: Saturday 21 March Kit Downes plus Tom Cawley (first set Jim Mullen plus Stan Sulzmann); Sunday 22 March (lunch special) Stan Tracey plus Keith Tippett; Ian Shaw plus Liane Carroll (evening) first set Daisy Chute Duo; Monday 23 March: Ian Shaw plus Liane Carroll, first set Emma Smith Duo; Tuesday 24 March Gwilym Simcock plus John Taylor first set Peter King plus Mornington Lockett.
