Trumpeter Richard Turner has been running a successful jazz night at Camden’s Constitution Pub, or rather in its below stairs Con Cellar Bar since October 2007, in which time the venue has played host to some of NYC’s finest including Mark Turner, Jeff Ballard, Larry Grenadier and Will Vinson. Turner has sought to forge strong links with the New York scene while also offering a platform for London’s new generation of young players including the likes of Kit Downes, Nathaniel Facey, Josh Blackmore and Shaney Forbes. Building on its growing reputation as a high quality jazz venue the club has just announced its inaugural festival, dubbed the ‘Con Fest 2009’ which will take place over the weekend of Saturday 25 April to Monday 27 April. The line up is as follows: Troyka, Hannes Riepler Quartet (featuring Phil Donkin), Richard Turner’s Round Trip (25 April); Root 70 featuring Nils Wogram, Hayden Chisholm, Matt Penman and Jochen Rueckert (26 April); Will Vinson Trio featuring Mike Janisch, Paul Wiltgen plus special guests TBA (27 April).
