The Brecon Jazz Festival in Wales returns from 6-9 August, with a smaller scale festival featuring 25 concerts in anticipation of a fuller event next year under the auspices of the Hay festival. The line-up for Brecon Jazz this year at venues to include the Theatre Brycheiniog, a 500-seater cafe venue and Brecon’s cathedral, features leading UK saxophonist Courtney Pine, Tunisian oud player Anouar Brahem, best known for his modern classic, Thimar, and South African piano great, Abdullah Ibrahim. The complete line-up for Brecon will be published next month. For more go to www.breconjazz.org Meanwhile, Hay, a large international literary festival which itself takes places later this month, has a music programme that also includes an appearance this year by legendary drummer Jimmy Cobb and his all-star So What band on 28 May, presented by Brecon Jazz.
