It’s nearly 50 years since A Love Supreme was released. To celebrate, musicians from a variety of backgrounds will gather to perform flautist Rowland Sutherland’s inventive new arrangements of John Coltrane’s seminal devotional suite. In keeping with the deeply spiritual nature of Coltrane’s recording, the performance will take place in the warm, tranquil surroundings of The Chapel in King’s College on 21 June, coinciding with the summer solstice. Reaffirming A Love Supreme’s vision of a world free from religious and cultural division, Sacred Music–Sacred Spaces hopes to offer nothing short of what Coltrane described as ‘Elation, Elegance, Exaltation’.

The evening will feature a strong mix of musical talents, including Ansuman Biswas (Indian instruments), Crispin Robinson (percussion), Juwon Ogunbe (vocals), Nikki Yeoh (piano), Orphy Robinson (marimba/steel pan), Neil Charles (contra-bass), Pat Thomas (electronics), Rowland Sutherland (flute), Richard Spaven (drums), Steve Williamson (saxophones), Shabaka Hutchins (bass clarinet). There will be two performances on 21  June, at 7.30pm (doors 7pm) and 9.30pm (doors 9pm).
