Revered pianist, composer, conceptualist, and bandleader Fred Hersch (pictured left) makes a rare UK visit this October to play a series of solo piano concerts starting next week. Hersch has been on fine form of late with his recent Grammy-nominated, critically acclaimed 2011 album Alone At The Vanguard, and its follow up Alive At the Vanguard, while his wider influence across today’s scene can be heard via his former students Brad Mehldau, The Bad Plus’ Ethan Iverson and Jason Moran, who has said: “Fred at the piano is like LeBron James on the basketball court. He’s perfection.”

A winner of numerous prestigious awards, these concerts will be a rare chance to hear this contemporary piano maestro at work on the following dates: Purcell Room, London (2 October); The Apex, Bury St. Edmond’s (3 October), St George’s, Bristol (4 October); Turner Sims Concert Hall, Southampton (5 October); The Edge Arts Centre, Much Wenlock (7 October); Leeds College of Music (9 October); RNCM, Manchester (10 October); Church of St John the Evangelist, Oxford (11 October); and Queen’s Hall, Edinburgh (12 October).
