Rising trumpet star Laura Jurd (pictured left), who is a leading member of London’s Chaos Collective, releases her debut album in October, and appears at the Chaos Festival at Soho’s Spice of Life from 18-20 October. Jurd, who made a strong impression when her quartet opened for Chris Potter at the Jazzwise 15th anniversary week at Ronnie Scott’s in March, releases Landing Ground on 19 October on the Chaos Collective label. It includes her quartet, pianist Elliot Galvin, bassist Conor Chaplin and drummer Corrie Dick; as well as the Ligeti string quartet and cellist Ben Davis and covers a broad range of her original compositions, inspired by European folk music, free improvisation and classical music.

Jurd formed the Chaos Collective with Galvin and Dick in late 2011, primarily as a live project which features ensembles such as Big Egg, Buzz Quartet, Crocodile, Pinwheel, the Chaos Orchestra, the Elliot Galvin Trio and Jurd’s quartet, all of which share certain musicians. They have built-up an audience over the past 12 months at the Spice of Life and the first Chaos Festival features Big Egg on 18 October, Chaos Sinfonietta featuring flautist Gareth Lockrane plus Instinct on 19 October and the Chaos Orchestra featuring saxophonist Mark Lockheart on 20 October.
