Each month Jazzwise speaks to one of the UK’s leading jazz musicians about their favourite gear and how they got started in jazz. For many it’s a journey that began early in life through many fascinating personal routes to becoming some of the UK’s top jazz musicians.

Among the many top names featured in this section the likes of guitarist Cameron Pierre, trumpeter Tom Arthurs, Mecury Prize nominated pianist Zoe Rahman, acclaimed saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock, amazing drummer and pianist Gary Husband, internationally renown trumpter and jazz educator Gerard Presencer, jazz and funk guitar great Jim Mullen, top guitar virtuoso John Etheridge, breathtaking electric bassist and bandleader Laurence Cottle and recent BBC Jazz Award Winners like saxophonist Soweto Kinch and pianist Neil Cowley have all revealed their personal journeys into jazz and the musical instruments that continue to inspire them to play.
