Etheridge and Carroll album launch - 1/10/08 Pizza Express Jazz Club, London

A rare collaboration between guitarist John Etheridge and singer Liane Carroll wowed the audience at the Pizza Express Jazz Club in Soho last night as the duo launched their new album, Break Even. Accompanied by Pete Whittaker on organ and Mike Fletcher on drums, the quartet played a selection of tracks from the disc.

Adriano Adewale Quartet - 17/09/08 Pizza Express Jazz Club

Adriano Adewale’s Quartet blending jazz, African and Brazilian elements amazed the audience at Pizza Express on Wednesday, 17  September launching their debut album Sementes. Produced by Gilad Atzmon, this album is due for release on 22 September.

Louis Hayes Cannonball Legacy Band plus Antonio Hart Quartet 6 August, Ronnie Scott's. London

The audience had high expectations from this double bill, and they were certainly not disappointed. The fact that an established jazz figure such as Antonio Hart could be the evening’s opener was an indication of what musical gems were in store.

The Antonio Hart Quartet featured John Goldsby on bass, Phil DeGreg piano, Steve Davis on drums and the band’s leader on alto sax (all of whom were tutors on this years Jazzwise Summer School). The quartet kicked off with ‘Here I Stand’, one of Hart’s own compositions, which earned him a Grammy nomination back in 1997.

Kenny Garrett - Ronnie Scott’s, Wednesday, July 2, 2008

Hackneyed cliché it may be, but Kenny Garrett really has done it all. Work with names such as Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock provides a mere glimpse of his glittering CV, augmented by recording dates for labels including Atlantic, Warner and Nonesuch.

Neil Cowley Trio - Cargo, London 2/4/08

Last night The Neil Cowley Trio launched their new album Loud…Louder…Stop! at trendy Shoreditch club Cargo, not usually the kind of venue you’d expect to find a piano trio playing. But then they aren’t your typical piano trio. As the audience files in there’s a building sense of excitement and by the time Cowley and Co. take to the stage the room is jammed full. “Aren’t you going to cheer us on?” Cowley quips wryly. This sets the tone for the evening to follow, music matching Cowley’s playful, fun and excitable personality.
