 Being a young, black, female, acoustic bass player and singer definitely marks out 21-year-old bass prodigy Esperanza Spalding from the hordes of jazz hopefuls graduating from the likes of Berklee and the Royal Academy. While none of these facts are significant in isolation, it’s the rare combination of her natural aptitude for the instrument and her incredibly mature musical instincts that have the jazz seniority raving about her.
