Manu Dibango, the Godfather of the Soul Makossa, returned to London’s Barbican Hall this April for another dazzling night of the funkiest, jazziest, soul-infused African music you will hear anywhere, as he celebrated an amazing 50 years in music by also releasing Lion Of Africa on CD and DVD.
Taking time out before his major London performance the Cameroonian born, now Paris resident, spoke to Jazzwise.com about how he got started in music and how he created his unique blend of jazz, funk and African sounds into that irresistible ‘Soul Makossa’ that he is known and loved for.
